The Library Manager directs the operations, staffing and program delivery for the Youth Discovery Center, located at the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library. As the YDC division manager, you will manage the day-to-day operations of the unit, provide services for children aged 0 to 18 through outreach, programming, reader's advisory, and materials selection and be responsible for creating opportunities for learning and discovery in science, math, art, reading and technology to help children.
The YDC division manager
1. Serves as early literacy subject matter expert, providing guidance, training and resources to staff, and ensuring early literacy principles are integrated into programs, services, and daily practice.
2. Plans, schedules, leads, develops, and participates in children’s services and programs; oversees the operations, program management, and daily upkeep and functionality of YDC; ensures customer requests are met and library resources provided and communicated.
3. Oversees the Development, design, selection and evaluation of the children’s material collection, including a children’s fine books collection.
4. Monitors assigned budgets for a library service, library programs, or system-wide material budgets by tracking expenditures.
5. Ensures programs, field trips, and outreach programs are planned in advanced, and staff are adequately prepared.
6. Maintains partnership with other library divisions and assist with system-wide events for children and teens.
7. Works shifts as manager in charge of central library, meeting the needs of and troubleshooting challenges for staff in all central library public service divisions.
Requirements
Staff Requires five years of experience in library service, including two years in a supervisory role and a master's degree in Library Science or a bachelor's degree plus seven years of library experience. Early literacy or children's services experience is necessary to be successful in this role.
