- Human Resources Generalist
Description
Dykema Gossett PLLC, a leading national law firm, is seeking to hire an experienced Human Resources Generalist who will serve as a trusted advisor to the department leaders and employees and assist employee benefits and retirement plan administration, performance management, employee relations and recruitment; background in accounting, payroll or financial processes is a plus. Position is open to our Bloomfield Hills and Detroit offices.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Retirement/Benefits:
- Act as first point of contact for retirement plan assistance with colleagues and serve as a liaison with plan vendors.
- Prepare census data and import files for retirement plan contributions.
- Develop communications related to annual contributions and plan schedules.
- Track Member elections, pooled account earnings and perform notifications to payroll and impacted Members. Prepare monthly report for deposit of payroll deductions and earnings allocation.
- Reconcile Plan activity, 5500 filings and financial statements.
- Prepare profit sharing contributions file for submission to external retirement plan administrator; prepare compliance test data reports for plan actuaries.
- Assist with entering benefits changes and adjustments as requested.
- Reconcile and process monthly insurance premium payments.
- Serve as backup for benefits and leave administration team, as needed.
Employee Relations/Recruitment:
- Serving as a trusted advisor by providing guidance and/or coaching to leaders on sensitive, confidential and complex HR issues.
- Serving as a resource to employees to promote engagement and positive employee relations.
- Assisting leaders with performance management and productivity goals.
- Conducting HR investigations and participating in disciplinary meetings; drafting performance improvement plans in conjunction with management.
- Conducting exit interviews and assisting with off-boarding processes.
- Participate in the Firm’s Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and Wellness Advisory Group, providing leadership and support as needed.
- Update and maintain employment policies and procedures as needed.
- Recommend new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed; participates in or leads HR project teams.
- Support hiring processes, including applicant screening, interviewing and selection of candidates.
- Coordinate pre-placement activities, on-boarding and new hire orientation and training.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field; PHR or SHRM-CP certification is a plus.
- At least three years of job-related experience, including employee benefits and retirement plan administration, performance management, employee relations and recruitment; background in accounting, payroll or financial processes is a plus.
- Strong technological skills and high level of proficiency of relevant Firm computer software programs (e.g., MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), project management and database applications, with the ability to learn new software and operating systems.
- Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy; highly proficient in data compilation, preparing spreadsheets and data reporting.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to analyze problems, exercise good judgment, strategic thinking, and make sound objective decisions.
- Excellent time and project management skills; ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the various functions performed by the HR department and the impact of those functions on other departments and offices.
- Positive attitude, professional demeanor, high emotional intelligence, cultural sensitivity and ability to interact effectively with all levels.
- Able to work efficiently as a part of a team and work well independently, taking initiative and being a self-starter; ability to effectively work in a hybrid work environment.
